STEWKLEY

Stewkley is an historic village on the edge of the Vale of Aylesbury. The High Street is reputed to be one of the longest in the country. It runs along the watershed between the Thames and the Ouse.

Many interesting buildings line the long High Street and, at the centre of the village close to Dormer Cottage, is the fine Norman church. There is also a Methodist chapel, built some seven hundred years later.

The village has a cafe/delicatessen that sells a range of groceries and two inns that serve meals.

Opposite Dormer Cottage is a path leading to the well maintained recreation ground where there are children’s play areas, tennis courts and sports pitches with cricket matches to watch in the summer. Beyond is a meadowland wildlife conservation area.

There are always social events taking place in the village and visitors are very welcome to join in the village life whilst staying at Dormer Cottage. These events are advertised in the newsletter,  the Grapevine.

A parish map has all the local footpaths marked.
